In short yes, it is placing pigment under the skin so it falls under the umbrella of a tattoo. However, SMP is the specific technique used to replicate existing hair follicles so there are nuances in technique, needles that are used and the depth we implant the ink.

Minimal pain is felt during SMP. Most clients say 3/10 in comparison to a traditional tattoo. However, everybody’s pain threshold is different. We are here to make your treatment as comfortable as possible.

Over time (2-5 years) the treatment will naturally fade, at this point a touch up is recommended. We only use carbon based black pigments so you can be sure the impressions will not turn blue in colour.

Our treatment will usually last anywhere between 2-5 years before we recommend you having a touch up session just to keep it looking fresh. As part of our aftercare we’ll give you guidance on how to maintain your scalp for better retention.

Treatment times vary depending on what is being done. As a rough guide, most treatments require 3x sessions, with each session lasting between 2-4 hours depending on the condition of the scalp and the area that needs covering. The sessions are spaced to give your scalp enough time to heal and regenerate. We are able to give a clearer timeline on your free consultation.
